Where do I start, I have no idea what to write about myself other than my name is Steve Bedder. I feel a little bit like Chunk in the movie The Goonies when the Fratellis ask him to tell them everything and he starts off "Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade...." So here goes....
I'm an engineer that loves technology, that's pretty much it but I'm guessing you might want a little more information than that.
Like many at school and college I didn't really have much of an idea what I wanted to do, I knew I loved design and making things (and breaking things apart to see how they worked), and I also loved working with computers. It wasn't until a chance meeting with an old teacher when he suggested I combine the two and look into CAD. I never knew I could do that!
I started using basic 2D CAD systems in 1992, these were pretty much an electronic drawing board.
In 1994 whilst using AutoCAD R10 for DOS I got the opportunity to start using parametric 3D design and that was it, my world was complete. I knew this is what I wanted to do. I spent four years using Pro\Engineer in conjunction with different AutoCAD versions before joining the Autodesk Channel in 1996 - it was the week Mechanical Desktop R1 was released. I started with Autodesk Inventor whilst it was in R1 beta in 1999 and have continued to use it ever since with the other products that Autodesk have developed to go hand in hand with Inventor.
I've worked with manufacturers of varying sizes and complexities all over Europe and North America to help them integrate their design, simulation and data management solutions into their working environment. I've trained design engineers on how to use technology, I've also advised manufacturers of how they can get the most out of people and technology and I've also been the guy in the server room at daft o'clock knee deep in SQL installs and service packs!
Today, my focus is on the Autodesk Digital Prototyping solutions of Inventor, Vault Professional, Inventor Publisher, Moldflow and Algor to name but a few. I work with manufacturers of all sizes to understand their needs & requirements and show them how Digital Prototyping can help them achieve their goals.
I live in Derbyshire (UK) with my wife and son. I love getting out into the open air and walking on the hills of the Peak District & Lake District, especially if I have got my camera in hand. I like reading, watching films, gardening and watching football & Formula 1.

The postings on autodeskmfg.typepad.com are my own personal opinions and do not represent Autodesk's view in any way. In addition, my opinions are subject to change. By definition, a blog is a chronology of information - including opinions. As a result, you should consider that out of date blog postings may not necessarily reflect my current opinion on a given topic.
Although this blog is not the official Autodesk opinion, endorsement, or recommendation, autodeskmfg.typepad.com is authored by an Autodesk employee. This approach provides direct contact between customers and Autodesk personnel most familiar with our newest technologies. It is an effective method in breaking down the barrier that separates customers from Autodesk developers. In addition, blog readers get content that, although more informal, is more timely.
